![]() ![]() It's an entertaining effort- just not up to that superlative first book. Still, the situation and dialogue are irreverently comical and Johnson's caricatures are adroitly satirical. Meanwhile, Johnson's paintings, though he adopts some of Lane Smith's fey menace and induces tension by canting his perspectives, lack Smith's wit, imagination, and masterful sense of design. But the conclusion-glad to get back to his princess, he kisses her and they both become happy frogs-seems limp and unmotivated. The picture of the erstwhile frog and his princess bickering (``Stop sticking your tongue out like that'' ``How come you never want to go down to the pond anymore?'') is genuinely funny, and the prince's quest for a witch to turn him back into a frog-during which he runs into witches from several other tales-is amusing. ![]() Wolf) of The True Story of the Three Little Pigs (1989) assays another humorous embroidery of a traditional tale with somewhat less notable success. ![]() ![]() ![]() Shades of Lovers is a BookTok favorite, and fans are saying "amazing", "beautiful", "love it" and "a MUST READ for all poetry lovers" Find Catarine's other book, sometimes I fall asleep thinking about you - a story of heartbreak and finding solace, even when it feels you won't ever find it. ![]() Explore the experience of six different relationships in this moving collection that dives into the highs and lows of love. ![]() i give them to you, so that when love comes knocking, you will have a sense of what to do when you open the door. I had to smile as he subtly changes the voice of a character as they moved between sexes. Mr Kenny is a superb complement to this excellent book. Would you consider the audio edition of Excession to be better than the print version? While I believe there are other readings by Mr Kenny as powerful as this, none are better and this will forever remain a performance not to be missed. I would encourage any fan of story telling, whether written word or film or stage play or photojournalism etc., who don't mind a bit of the ol' spec-fic to give this a go. His obvious skill, talent and intelligence as an actor, most essentially I believe with radio-play experience, has given him a gift permitting him to join Mr Banks in 'The Culture' in a way I think few others could hope to achieve. Kubrick and Clarke created the universe of 2001 apart but together to be comparable, Mr Kenny was not a co-creator yet he is a collaborator. Mr Kenny seems to have a number of uncanny knacks of what I believe a true storyteller should have, an ancient art form that went out of favour with the invention of the printing press and now, thanks to audio books, is making a comeback. ![]() Peter Kenny has brought a whole new experience to my understanding the writing of Iain Banks. In Outpost we also see the maturity that Stalker has gained. Even more admirable, though, is the fact that he is content with this new settlement but STILL chooses to fight alongside Deuce in summer patrol.
